SIMS Study of Na Distributions in CIGS

Na is an important composition element in CIGS based solar cells. It is important to measure and understand the Na distribution both vertically and laterally.
We have shown previously that SIMS can provide accurate quantification of Na in layer with gradient Ga/In composition under proper analysis conditions, (figure 1). The profile provide Na concentration and CIGS composition simultaneously.  SIMS study of Na in CIGS and impurities in CdTe/CdS, Wang, L, Wang, A, Hockett, R.S., Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC), 2009 34th IEEE, Page. 494-498In this study, we will present SIMS results of Na lateral distribution in CIGS film. We will present results with large scale (>200um) that covers many grains, and small scale ( ~ 10um) that reveal Na distribution in grain and grain boundaries. The initial results shown in figure 2 suggest that Na is decorating CIGS grain boundary in the solar cell we performed in this study.
