Welcome New Polymer Scientist
Chemir expands their plastic and polymer analytical capabilities with the addition of Debra Dunson, Ph.D., Senior Polymer Scientist. Dr. Dunson brings extensive experience with analytical and physical testing of thermoplastics, elastomers and other polymer materials. She is an important addition to the expanding plastic and polymer investigative and product development services of Chemir.
“Plastic and polymer materials challenge a variety of industries, such as consumer products, packaging, toys, personal care, pharmaceuticals and medical devices”, says Aaron Cassely, Senior Director of Chemir. “We welcome Dr. Dunson’s extensive experience with thermal and physical techniques, and her excellent data interpretation skills, including DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Instron mechanical testing, rheometers and spectrophotometers,.” Dr. Dunson also has experience with polymer synthesis and the formulation of polymer blends, coatings and films. This complements Chemir’s recently added product development services for paints, coatings and adhesives.
Dr. Debra Dunson earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, under the direction of Dr. James McGrath. She is a military veteran of the United States Navy. She began her career at Read-Rite Corporation in Milpitas, CA, specializing in organic polymer adhesives, and most recently served as Senior Scientist with Bay Materials, Menlo Park. Here she worked with clients to perform materials characterization, failure analysis, deformulation and synthesis for plastic and polymer materials.
