Title: State-of-the-Art Analytical Approaches in Medical Device Chemical Characterization

Abstract: Proper collection and interpretation of extractable data are critical to ensure the output of a chemical characterization study accurately reflects the potential patient exposome resulting from a medical device. However, the lack of defined expectations from regulatory bodies regarding the analytical technology employed in ISO 10993-18 programs has led to a spectrum of approaches throughout the industry, many which are insufficient to adequately capture the extractable profile. Last year, EAG Laboratories presented the impact of three pillars of state-of-the-art chemical characterization: data deconvolution, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and reference material databases. This year, we will build upon this discussion with case studies demonstrating the essential nature of these analytical tools in modern medical device testing.
